An image of the flying platform, later to become Bernoulli I and II, first surfaced in Panamarenko's work in 1975 as a drawing called "Paradox II, Schip". It was finally built, an almost exact replica of the drawing. The second Bernoulli, designed to correct a steering problem in the first of the flying platforms, followed in the year 2000. It is clear that the two Bernoulli's lie at the heart of a complex web of personal, technical, theoretical and philosophical preoccupations which extend well beyond the works themselves.
